small dark crane fly with distinct pale abdominal band - Liogma nodicornis

small dark crane fly with distinct pale abdominal band - Liogma nodicornis
Lake Meyer Park, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
June 21, 2019
Size: ~8 mm
I did a little searching on BugGuide and found the closest matches to this small crane fly in the Cylindrotomidae family, but those crane flies appear to be quite rare since there were few photos to compare. Unfortunately, my photos are not crystal clear so an ID may not be possible but I thought the markings were quite distinctive.

Liogma nodicornis
Thanks for identifying this small crane fly to be Liogma nodicornis, John! This is certainly a new crane fly find for me, and a nice record to add to BugGuide's distribution map to include Iowa.
