Sawfly Larva

Sawfly Larva
Desert Hot Springs, Riverside County, California, USA
May 18, 2008
Size: ~3-4cm
outside wall of motel. Note seven pairs of prolegs which makes this a sawfly rather than a caterpillar. Can anyone be more specific than that?

Moved

We see three pair of true thoracic legs
four pair of abdominal prolegs, and a pair of anal prolegs. This looks to be lepidopteran to us, but it's hard to separate the legs from the wall. Sorry we can't help with the ID. These leaf roller type guys are tough!
