Agapostemon splendens - Male
St. Pete Beach, Pinellas County, Florida, USA
October 15, 2007
I snapped a picture of this bee/wasp/hornet snacking on some helianthus out on the beach by my house... It wasnt till I got home and uploaded it to my computer that I noticed the legs protruding out from behind the flower in the lower right hand corner... What kind of bee/wasp/hornet is this? and for a bonus 50 points, just by looking at the legs, what kind of insect is in hiding? Is it some type of crab spider perhaps?

Thank you!!!
This site is way more efficient than whats that bug!!!
Thank you very, very much!!!!

LOL!
Ha! I volunteer IDs for WTB as well as here, so I empathize. Dan Marlos simply gets overwhelmed, and WTB is 'not' his primary job, just to clarify. I'm waiting for some company to try and buy his site, it gets so many hits....

Im awfully sorry, I didnt mean to offend...
I just want to say, WTB is AWESOME!!!, And my props go out to Dan Marlos and all of his crew... They have helped me identify countless ammounts of species... I just didnt expect to get such an instantaneus response from Bug Guide...

Im so excited to have discovered both sites!!!
Ive been on all day just oooohing and awing!!!

KUDOS!!!! :)

Dan Marlos rules!!!
I got a chance to chat with Dan this morning... He posted photographs of a green metallic be and a white peacock butterfly that I submitted... He seems like such a nice guy... this has turned into my new favorite hobby over night... I used to get my kicks identifying plant species, and this has surpassed that hobby instantaneously... I just cant wait till I get better at it, all in due time I guess...
