spider mite? - Balaustium

spider mite? - Balaustium
10 miles north of Doniphan, Ripley County, Missouri, USA
May 19, 2008
Size: ~1-2 mm
I used a very odd method to get closer to this one. I put my camera to full zoom (32X), and then focused it through my binoculars.... backwards!! A little blurry, but got in much closer than I have previously.

Moved
Moved from Erythraeidae.

Moved
Moved from Acariformes.

Erythraeidae
This is an erythraeid.

Looks like
One of the Acariformes but these are very difficult to ID so that is as far as I can go.

Good, creative approach.
You might experiment with other non-camera lenses, or see if there are accessory lenses for your camera that go on in front of the built-in lens. This certainly looks like a mite to me.
