Longistigma caryae - female

Longistigma caryae - Female
Horton Grove Preserve, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
June 6, 2020
Size: 6 mm
Size estimated. I am interpreting the big grey ones as wingless females, along with juveniles. They were on the bark of American Beech (Fagus grandifolia) and were being tended by ants. Photos are of two groups on different trees. There are only a few instances here on BugGuide of these aphids being tended by ants:

In that case, ants were identified as Camponotus chromaiodes. Any ideas on these ants?

Update. A knowledgeable friend identified these ants as Camponotus pennsylvanicus - (Eastern) black carpenter ant.
