ID justification
I was wondering if you noticed something that made species ID possible? I have the same situation of both species in my area and don't know how to tell them apart.

No, sorry --
We were looking at another image when we made the move and missed this discussion. Just assumed it was coniferarum because Wagner says that's what's in the coastal area. He puts bombycoides back up in the Appalachians. Do we disagree with that? We can move this back to the genus page if you prefer. The pine in the dorsal shot does not look like White Pine if that helps.

I was just curious
Trying more to figure mine out (past or future) than anything else. It probably is correct, I certainly can't say it isn't. Just trying to learn more.

Yes
Lapara coniferarum and L. bombycoides larvae are very similar and it's hard to tell the difference.

Should I change the ID?
I assumed L. coniferarum since we are in coastal SC.

Range
I don't know the range 100%, but I believe that you are in an overlap so it may be better to leave at Genus Lapara rather than guessing either way. Maybe someone will add more specific data on the range.
