Football shaped sphere that jumps and rolls

Football shaped sphere that jumps and rolls
Hanover, MB, Manitoba, Canada
June 26, 2020
Size: 1/8” x 3/16” long
Found this “bug” on driveway. No appendages, just smooth hard shelled football shaped object. Bounces and jumps around with a ticking noise. Black on the ends lighter gray band around the middle. Any idea what it is?

Well, this is a long shot ...
... as I am NOT an expert on the group, but it sure reminds me of the larva of the syrphid fly genus Microdon. But those are found only in the nests of ants, and I'd be hard pressed to explain how it ended up in your driveway.
