Syrphid Fly - Allograpta obliqua - Female
Ozark Mountains, Searcy County, Arkansas, USA
May 21, 2008
Several of these flies seemed to be feeding on something that was on the grass and other small plants ... never could determine what the substance was ... no large blooms in the area ... noticed them for a several hours from mid to late PM ... Marvin.

I'm thinking...
it might be Allograpta obliqua. Check the pics there. One of the experts can probably confirm for sure. Nice pics, and if it does turn out to be A. obliqua, first record on BugGuide for Arkansas. :)
