Camponotus chromaiodes

Camponotus chromaiodes
Rancocas Woods, Burlington County, New Jersey, USA
May 11, 2008
I don't have a size, but it was fairly large. My nephew found these in a rotten log. Probably some type of Camponotus (Carpenter Ants).

Camponotus chromaiodes - minor worker
Wokers of the same species have been posted from AL three days ago. A widespread - and, just like you write, colorful - South-Eastern species whose NJ must be near the Northern limit of the range.
