Side question to you photographers, how do get a butterfly to spread its wings (naturally)? Gossamer wings don’t seem to like to show their dorsal colors so it’s hard for me to get pictures of it.

Butterflies are cold blooded and need to regulate
body temp by basking and shade. Early morn, they often bask to get enough energy and body temp sufficient for flight and activities. In the heat of the day they will close wings while at rest and seek shade.
So best time to get open wing dorsal shots is cool early morn or late evening.

From what I’ve seen, butterflies like to open their wings to bask in the sun. Try putting them in a sunny place and see what happens.
