Eulophids emerged from 1 or 2 of the mines, and a doomed Taphrocerus larva emerged from the third (the leaf didn't last long enough).

two questions about the doome
two questions about the doomed larva: some Scirpus leaves will be arriving tomorrow with the package--too late? Also, could it be preserved for bar-coding?

I've never successfully inserted a buprestid larva into a fresh leaf (at least not permanently), and none of them are able to enter a new leaf on their own. I did put the larva in the vial of ethanol along with the eulophids, but I don't have any contacts who will do beetle barcoding at this point. (And the person who did it previously hasn't responded to emails for months now, which is why the two big beetle papers have stalled out for the time being.)

Makes sense... I hope the preserved beetle is useful someday... I will keep trying to find this one (I have collected two more, and I'll see what they do, if anything)...
