Rattlesnake Grade, Mono County, California, USA
June 27, 2020
~7100' elevation. Reared from a caterpillar that was feeding on Bitterbrush (Purshia tridentata).

I reared 2 caterpillars; they both eclosed a few days apart but unfortunately I didn't label which caterpillar went with what butterfly (oops!).
I'm posting the caterpillar as a separate observation from pupa and butterfly.

The butterfly eclosed from this pupa.

Have you seen this book?(1)

They basically did what you did for every butterfly species in Cascadia.

I hope someday we have books like that for every region of NA.

Someone is probably working on such a project in your area. It takes a long time to do it obviously.

Lepidoptera Life History
I've not seen that book, it looks great!
David Wagner is working on book of caterpillars of Western North America,I think it's still a few years out & he's already spent a # of years on it already! If it's anything like the Eastern Guide, it'll have a small insert of the moth/butterfly but no pupa. And most likely it'll be predominately moths.
