Water Beetle - Thermonectus basillaris

Water Beetle - Thermonectus basillaris
Katy, Harris County, Texas, USA
June 28, 2020
Size: 0.25 inch
This was a beetle found in the water after a significant rain. I really like how the front feet have evolved like paddles and the back have really long streamlined hairs.

Moved from Beetles.

Incredible picture!
I can’t help with identification, but as a hobbiest photographer, I admire the detail of your capture.

the modified front tarsi....
...are actually covered with various sized 'suction cups' which allow the male to stick to the female during mating...

That's crazy.
I thought they must be for swimming. I need a better lens to get a good picture of those feet!
