Wasp species? - Podalonia

Size: 1 inch +/-
I observed this wasp visiting a type of plant that I believe is called Pussy Paws. The blackish wasp was very active.

Possible identification
That’s probably a great black wasp (Sphex pensylvanicus) which lives all over North America 😊
