Size: 1 inch+
Found in a compost pile near downed tree. Tan and lively. Is it a beetle or cicada? please.

I would recommend putting the pupa in a thin layer of compost in bottom of a small plastic container with a lid, and waiting to see what emerges.
Then photograph the adult, add the image, and we will have an association of the adult with the pupa.
