Remarks
Create diverse leaf galls on hickory. They can vary from small disk-like or button-like galls with a central opening guarded by plant hairs to globular swellings 1/2 inch in diameter on upper or lower leaf surfaces.(1)
The interior of a gall may be densely lined with young giving the appearance of crystals on a geode.(1)
