Shagbark hickory Phylloxera - Phylloxera caryaeglobuli - female

Shagbark hickory Phylloxera - Phylloxera caryaeglobuli - Female
Amherst, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, USA
May 24, 2008
Size: gall is 5 mm across
I tore open a gall on a shagbark hickory leaf and found this inside. She didn't want to face the camera, but if you look closely you can see the top of an aphid-ish insect facing to the right, and some of her eggs.
