Bombus auricomus queen - Bombus auricomus - female

Bombus auricomus queen - Bombus auricomus - Female
Oakwood Cemetery, Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York, USA
July 6, 2020
Size: 1.75 in-2 in
Returned to the site where a friend had found this species (posted previously) and found one worker and one queen in the exact same location, visiting a patch of sweet pea along with several resin bees and other megachilids. I am not exaggerating when I say that this queen was the largest bee I have ever seen in my entire life. It was verging on two inches in length, and seemed barely able to keep itself airborne. It dwarfed the nearby carpenter bees. Incredible to see. I will post the worker separately.
