Sweep-netted Springtail - Sminthurus incisus

Sweep-netted Springtail - Sminthurus incisus

Moved from Sminthurus.

Sminthurus incisus
Given your recent other posts it is neither nigromaculatus nor mencenbergae. S. incisus is the nearctic lookalike of the common palaearctic S. viridis.

Sminthurus sp.
Most probably S. nigromaculatus. BTW, in collembola.org nigromaculatus is considered to be an ecovariant of viridis.
But there are two candidates for the species :
1. mencenbergae
2. nigromaculatus
We need a close-up of the eye in lateral aspect :
in mencenbergae ocellus A is close to B
in nigromaculatus there is a distinct gap between ocellus A and B
We need a dorsal aspect close-up of the 3 spots of the small abdomen :
in mencenbergae the 2 spots on abd.6 are not equal in width (the first is wider than the second)
in nigromaculatus the 2 spots on abd.6 are equal in width

Thanks!
I will try to get better pictures next time.
