Parnopes edwardsii

Parnopes edwardsii
Alameda, Alameda County, California, USA
July 4, 2020
Size: ~15 mm
On Mustard. Body shape was different from the more common green bees in the area (see other observations from this day). It was stockier, and the abdomen flared out at the bottom (see additional photos). The green was more "glittery" (less smooth), and the legs were green, not yellow. Expert opinion, yay!
Thank you to Dr. Lynn Kimsey, Cuckoo Wasp expert at UC Davis: " This is actually Parnopes edwardsii Cr. You can tell because it has 4 abdominal segments visible, instead of three and the apical margin of the last segment is spiculate." - Lynn
