Is it a mite, louse or tick? Or something else? San Francisco , San Francisco County, California, USA July 8, 2020 Size: About a 1mm
Found on bathroom windowsill, window doesn't close perfectly, the gaps around edges allow bugs to crawl in, or blow in if windy enough. I've seen a few blow in. I've had bird mites in this same bathroom 2 years ago. It took awhile before the itchy bite symptoms dissipated after removal of pigeons and applying bird proofing nets.
I recently began feeling that same familiar feeling from the bird mites nightmare. I wondered if it's maybe a mouse or rat mite. I have found these creatures on the windowsill, the floor, and even near bathtub edge!!!! Bathroom has holes near plumbing and at edges of grout & walls, any rodent could fit thru and drop their little parasites as they explore the space.
Both type of rodents are rampant in this neighborhood, and I've seen them outside, running into the garage and in this building before. I find strange debris on the floors in the morning sometimes making me wonder how it got there.
I keep it clean in here, but it's difficult to have a clean island (my apt) within an ocean of filth (building). but who knows maybe they pass through my apt to eat wood destroying organisms. I frequently find beetles, their shells or elytra (is that right) and frassy looking sawdust around inside of kitchen cabinetry. Drawer pulls come out of socket due to something eating wood. (I'll upload beetles & their exuviae tmrw). I also find what I think are spring tails or bristletails & silverfish near water damaged areas. I think the rodents could be maybe coming in to feast on beetles & springtails. Just a guess. I've been trying to figure it out for a long time & it's starting to drive me crazy.
I do my best to keep it clean & uninhabitable to insects and rodents, but this building has numerous issues beyond my control.
I seriously wonder if these gray guys are rodent mites or lice. Nothing I use on my indoor only cat is helping stop his suffering, and I've found strange exoskeletons in my cats fur, nothing like a flea infestation. Therefore I feel it might be an environmental issue and would like to find out exactly what I'm dealing with.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading this.
