Actually, this particular individual seemed particularly inclined to hover, so "Carpe Diem!"...I wonder if he wasn't actually checking me out, 'cause I was invading his personal space... But seriously, you will occasionally run across some Emeralds that do hover quite a bit. I noticed it a lot with this species, as well as S walshii, but also the Baskettails and some Darners. Then, if your camera lets you, try actually focussing by hand as soon as you can when the insect is hovering and just shoot like mad! I took about 50 shots of this guy, but I did five really good ones (I never would have tried this in the old days with film!) I will likely post the others too, shortly. Time to frass?

It looks like you may have uploaded two copies of the same photo, one to the species, the other just to "dragonflies". I have brought them together. If they are duplicates, one of them should be frassed.
