Small Bee - Melissodes bimaculatus - male

Small Bee - Melissodes bimaculatus - Male
Alexandria , Virginia, USA
July 15, 2020
I was watering a Hibiscus moscheutos plant. Two bees flew up and landed on a late-fall-flowering (October) white Aster. One bee flew more than the other and kept approaching the other. It always landed nearby the other one. I suspect the one that remained landed was a female and the other a male. I think both got doused with water. There are likely some ground nests where I watered. I saw three of these bees flying in the same area today (07/16/2020). I took the submitted pictures yesterday.

Melissodes bimaculatus
Melissodes bimaculatus catching an afternoon nap. Just a few of some similar photos ... based on the comments for some of the photos, the males are the ones that rest like this.

Thank you!
I am happy to see more and more different kinds of small bees around as I plant more and more different kinds of native flowering plants.
