Sawfly - Pristiphora appendiculata

Sawfly - Pristiphora appendiculata
Brighton, Northumberland, Ontario, Canada
May 8, 2008
Size: 1/2 inch+
Found this caterpillar on a gooseberry bush in early May. The second image is the cocoon formed, at this point I could still see the caterpillar inside moving back and forth. The cocoon eventually turned brown. The third image is of the sawfly, approximately 1/4 inch. The entire transformation from first finding the caterpillar to sawfly took approximately 20 days. Is it possible to ID this sawfly?

Please correct the dates
I think it will be of interest to see the time progression but currently all three images are dated May 14.

BTW If you put the date in the title (in addition to the date field), it's visible when you run the cursor over in thumbnail view, which can be a handy feature in this kind of series. See here for an example.

Your larva looks different from Nematus ribesii, the gooseberry sawfly, but maybe it changes as it matures.

Sawfly
Thanks John. I think the adults pictured on the web look very different from mine. But the caterpillar looks almost the same.
