Springtail_1030 - Sinella curviseta

Springtail_1030 - Sinella curviseta

Something in Entomobryidae perhaps? Saw an image of Heteromurus nitidus in the guide which looked similar. Found in my compost pile with many more (possibly several species). Lots of ants and moth flies were there as well.

Thank you.

Sinella curviseta
Family Entomobryidae, indeed.
I had some second thoughts about my initial ID of Entomobrya griseoolivata.

If the split eye cluster is not an artifact in your picture, it is Sinella curviseta.

I think the eye cluster is split. I added another view. I have several more shots and they all show the split. My camera sensor is in need of a food cleaning so there are artifacts but the split is consistent.

So this makes it Sinella curviseta? I don't see a page for it.

I'll have to clean the sensor this weekend and shoot some more of them. Any tips on getting them to settle down for a decent photo?

Thanks
for providing the closeup of the eyecluster.

It means you have a scoop! The first Sinella curviseta at BugGuide ;-)
You can make a new page for it or ask some administrator to do it.

Here you can find a method how to settle Collembola specimens down for a foto shoot:
