A Big Spider I Found in My Garage - Hogna

A Big Spider I Found in My Garage - Hogna
Calhoun, LA, Ouachita - North East Louisiana Parish, Louisiana, USA
October 21, 2007
Size: 4" "toe-to-toe"
I thought this might be a wolf spider, but am puzzled by its size. It is a pretty fast runner, as my wife will attest. It seemed to sort of drag its middle two hind legs as it ran sort of like a fish tail. The piece of pine straw is about 6" long.

Wolf Spider
looks right. Spiders are measured by their body only, legs not included. I cropped your image to show more of the spider detail, sorry the pine straw got cut out. One of our spider experts may be able to give you a more specific ID. I think it's possible it is a Carolina Wolf Spider, and they get really big. See them here.
