Unusual syrphid
This is not something I have come across before. If you see any more specimens like this it would be valuable to collect at least a male and female. They can then be deposited in the Canadian National Collection for study or in one of our provincial collections. If the latter, please let me know ( as I would like to study the specimens.

Will try to collect, possibly next season

This was in a remote area of B.C. we will likely not make it back to this year. But I will for sure keep an eye out in the future and try to collect it if I see a similar specimen.
