Dun Skipper caterpillar 1 - Lerema accius

Dun Skipper caterpillar 1 - Lerema accius
Cass County, Texas, USA
May 29, 2008
Size: 1/2"
I found this on what I think is some sort of big stemmed grass by my pond. It had folded a leaf over itself with webbing. There is a burnt sienna colored spot on the top back of the head that does not show up very well in either of these 2 images. I looked thru my copy of David L. Wagner's - Caterpillars of Eastern North America, and narrowed an ID down to either a Dun Skipper (Euphyes vestris) or to a Black Dash (Euphyes conspicua). I think it is a Dun Skipper.

Nice job!
Great images, and great detective work. Moving to genus page for now, which is way better than languishing in "ID Request."
