Size: ~1 centimeter
Found several caterpillars on a big patch of beggartick - most looked like they were probably earlier instars of this one. Beggartick was heavily eaten; haven't previously seen such dramatic feeding on that plant.

Looks rather to be
the larva of a sawfly

 
sawfly would make sense...
It does, at least superficially, look a lot like this:
