Efferia apicalis - male

Efferia apicalis - Male
Howell Woods, Johnston County, North Carolina, USA
May 29, 2008
Size: 14 mm
These tiny Efferia (I presume) were hanging out in a sandy area on a trail. Size estimated--somewhere around 11-15 mm, I would say. They were much smaller than species familiar to me, such as Triorla interrupta. Here one can see the following mark for Efferia apicalis (see guide page):
-mystax (mustache) with black bristles above and pale yellow hairs below

In close proximity to this female--presumably the same species:

Moved
Moved from Efferia--thanks, Herschel, what would we all do without you?

Efferia [Nerax]
This is likely Efferia [Nerax] apicalis. Limited to the far southeast and NC. Small compared to femoratus. And with reduced white on abdomen down to just 6th and 7th segments as here. Tibias supposedly mostly 'honey yellowish'. Your female is likely to match.
