Phaneta ferruginana - Eucosma ferruginana

Phaneta ferruginana - Eucosma ferruginana
DuPage County, Illinois, USA
May 20, 2005
Size: about 15 mm
This moth was trying to hide in plain sight during the day.

Hi Bruce......
.... with the usual caveat of uncertainty simply because we don't have a good series of photos for all the Phaneta species (Tortricidae) this looks like 2915 - Phaneta ferruginana, based on the lack of strong white detail along the costa approaching the apex, and on the dark red marking running up the wing toward the head. A number of Phaneta species are shown on this Pinned Specimen Plate.

Thanks Bob
