Larva - Pseudoschinia elautalis

Larva - Pseudoschinia elautalis
BLM Road 57 off Swift Trail, 32.692, -109.755, Pinaleno Mountains, Graham County, Arizona, USA
May 21, 2019
Size: Length 16 mm.
Larva found feeding on Opuntia engelmannii.
Soon after the photo was taken the larva dropped to the ground and formed a soil-covered cocoon. After more than a year without adult emergence I presumed it had died. Upon opening the cocoon I found a prepupa still alive. It was given some water and a section of a cactus pad. It seemed to graze on the cactus pad flesh but did not produce any frass. On 7-6-20 it pupated. The adult emerged on 7-24-20.
Elevation 3,920. ft.
