One-spotted Tiger Beetle - Apterodela unipunctata

One-spotted Tiger Beetle - Apterodela unipunctata
Haw River State Park, Rockingham County, North Carolina, USA
May 31, 2008
Size: 15 mm
This beetle showed up in deep woods near the Rockingham County/Guilford County border. Note that the second white elytra spot is almost hidden in shadow.

Nice find
Very good find, Dorothy. There is an interesting article about this species in Beetles in the Bush.

Thanks, Pat!
Little did I suspect it was in another genus, but I guess it does have a round thorax! The article was really interesting, didn't know that it was considered rare, albeit locally common in some places in Missouri. I put a link to it on my website.
