mite or a tick maybe - Ornithonyssus bacoti
Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, California, USA
June 1, 2008
I found these crawling all over me in my house. They seem to be biting me and my other family members. Yesterday was pretty bad as I moved some unused firewood that was in the living room outside and there was a ton of them in that.

I took it to vector control the other day and it was identified as a tropical rat mite.

Not a deer tick
I think this is very unlikely to be a deer tick (Ixodes scapularis). The size is about the same as a larval I. scapularis, but the specimen clearly has 8 legs. Larval ticks (and other larval mites) have only 6 legs. I would guess this is an adult or nymphal mite rather than a tick.

It's hard to see
but it looks like a deer tick to me. They're pretty tiny. Is that 1 mm?

yeah that is one of the large
yeah that is one of the larger ones I was afraid my dog had brought some in and they hatched but I've yet to see any of them attached to us but there have been bites sorry for the clarity of the photo I just put the thing an a ziplock bag and scanned it as my camera just couldn't zoom in on it enough to see it. I just made another scan with the tape only on the platen to see if I could get better clarity I'll post that one as well.
