winged termite? - Reticulitermes flavipes

I finally had a chance to really look at these images. Based on morphology and even more on location, they are R. flavipes. Apparently none of the similar termites can stand your bitter cold winters up there!

Other clues

Antenna are not clubbed as an ant's would be, and there doesn't appear to be a constriction where the abdomen joins. I think the reproductives are usually black, actually. I don't recall ever seeing any white ones.

Now that you mention it, I do seem to recall that about the color. First the non-constricted waist, then the antennae decided me against the ant probability.

Yes, it is, winged termites look like this, with wings that extend well beyond the abdomen!
