V-shaped moth - Macaria

V-shaped moth - Macaria
Lincoln, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
August 10, 2020

Moved
Moved from Geometrid Moths.

(probably) Macaria minorata or Macaria transitaria

minorata
White pines are very common in the area and I have not seen any other type of pine nearby. According to Wagner (2001), Macaria minorata feeds on white pine and M. transitaria feeds on other pines.

Hard to say
DNA barcoding suggests they may be synonyms. There are still serious taxonomic issues with some species groups in this genus.
