Blue Mud Wasp (Chalybion californicum)

Blue Mud Wasp (Chalybion californicum)
Decatur, Wise County, Texas, USA
August 11, 2020
Size: 8mm guessimate
I found this under a bucket in our woods on a water valve handle. I watched for 5 or so minutes. Thought it was most interesting watching the repairs. I know there are a lot of photos but feel free to frass them. Following are the events as they happened...
1. There were 8 separate mud cocoons
2. I broke one open to see what was inside
3. The mud dauber came back and to my surprise started to repair the one I broke
4. Dirt was wet and it started to gather mud in its mouth
5. Not sure if it was using it mouth to deposit the mud
6. Then it would curl its abdomen under itself, not sure what that was for, maybe more fluid to the mix?
7. Still working on it going back for more mud
8. Industrious
9. Same procedure of tucking the abdomen under, new wet mud is the darker brown
10. Finished. Took about 5 or so minutes
