native to Europe and Turkey (populations from E Siberia and Japan are probably a distinct species)(1); widely distributed across NA (PQ-OH-CO-AK), likely introduced from Europe(2), treated as holarctic in(3)

Food
adults feed on foliage and flowers of various waterside plants, esp. Sium (Apiaceae) and Caltha (Ranunculaceae); the larva feed on the underside of leaves
