Pison (CA)
Wow, this one is very interesting! The emarginate inner eye margin puts this in the Trypoxylini. However, the body shape appears to short for Trypoxylon. I believe this is a Pison. There is only one species in North America (introduced from East Asia): P. koreense. However, this species has only been recorded from the east and midwest. I think it is perfectly possible that it has since spread.

Yes, interesting; thanks.
I think I have another, photographed recently at a nearby site. Will check.

Ah ha!
I wondered if it were a wasp. Thanks, John.
