Will do
How do I do this when I make a new Id request?

It's the same as posting to ID Request...
1. Navigate to the appropriate taxon (i.e., Syrphidae).
2. Make sure you're on the Images tab (important).
3. Click on the "add image" link at the upper left.
4. Complete the submission form and upload your image.

Should I use "ID Request" or "Add image" if I want an ID?
Hi Ken,

I've been placing my images in the groups I think they may be but have since noticed that I've been getting less ID's from that approach. If I want help with identification, should I place them directly in "ID request" (with some exceptions, like Syrphid?). I am unsure how this works from a curation perspective.

Thanks!

It's entirely your call.
I always recommend posting to the Guide when you have at least a general idea of what you've got. Images posted to ID Request are rapidly buried under pages of new submissions--especially in the summer--and may not attract expert attention. In addition, the specialists in a particular taxon (the folks who can provide the best IDs) will be more likely to be hanging out in their area of interest, rather than browsing through ID Request. One caution, though... If you do decide to post to the Guide, please don't guess. In other words, if you know you have a Beetle, and you think it might be a Soldier Beetle, post to Coleoptera, not Cantharidae.

Will do this next time :)
Thanks! Will do that next time
