Pale Green Weevil with open jaw - Polydrusus impressifrons

Pale Green Weevil with open jaw - Polydrusus impressifrons
Richmond Hill, York Region, Ontario, Canada
June 3, 2008
Size: 5.5 mm
Take-off. The bare abdominal tergites contrast strikingly with the rest of the iridescent, scale-covered body. Note the jaws are still open - the beetle never closed them, it was like they were locked in position.

**EDIT: After checking up on the two individuals, I noticed that one has closed a single jaw.

Love it!
Reminds me of a rooster greeting the day.

Thanks, Ron.
An enthusiastic rooster it would be, with a marvelous outfit to catch the morning rays :-)
This is one of my better shots so far ... getting it wasn't easy, and it took me many attempts in the process. Still, the instant shutter response definitely allows me to capture moments that my old DC just doesn't let me do.
