tiny aquatic critter - Hydrocanthus iricolor

tiny aquatic critter - Hydrocanthus iricolor
Hampshire Athletic Club pond, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, USA
June 21, 2020
Came up in one of the samples that I'd dip-netted out of the HAC pond during MIIDGE. Very tiny, almost overlooked it. On the side of my sorting pan, tail pointed toward the surface, head down. My best guess at this point would be a larval Skiff Beetle (Hydroscaphidae)?

PostScript: identified to genus by Matthew Pintar on iNat

Part of the 2020 MIIDGE project.

Moved
Moved from Hydrocanthus. It appears, from a quick review of info at the Illinois Natural History Survey, that none of the other species in this genus have ever been recorded this far north or east.

Moved from Beetles.
