Sure fooled me...a Bumble Bee mimic... - Eristalis flavipes

Sure fooled me...a Bumble Bee mimic... - Eristalis flavipes
Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska, USA
August 23, 2020
Saw this insect feeding on zinnias in my garden. At first glance, thought it was a bumble bee. When I started looking at my photos noticed the eyes were very large and prominent. The antenna appeared to be very short and clubbed. I thought that the black spot was long and narrow...on the interalar region between the wings. 92 degrees Hope you can help id this for me. Thanks
