Unidentified bug that looks like an American/German cockroach hybrid. - Ectobius pallidus Concord, Massachusetts, USA June 5, 2008 Size: 10-12 mm
I've seen this type of insect in our home since the weather started getting warm. We have found it in the kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and on the back porch, at all times during the day. We have never seen more than one at a time. At first, it looked like a juvenile (nymph) cockroach, but then I notice the horizontal bands on the dorsal side of its abdomen, which threw me off. It has antennae, six legs, and what appears to be two small pincers on it's abdomen. It doesn't appear to have wings. The thorax/head area is pale with small black spots, and the abdomen is brown/red with dark brown/black horizontal stripes.
