Black and White Spider - Gasteracantha cancriformis

Black and White Spider - Gasteracantha cancriformis
Nacogdoches County, Texas, USA
June 6, 2008
Size: 1.5cm
I found this specimen dead and tangled in a web near my garden. I placed it on a nearby green bean leaf for photographing. The abdomen is very hard and shell like. It has 8 legs and looks to be in the Order of Araneae. I would be very thankful if someone could ID it for me.
