It has been determined that the correct name
for the insects formerly called Cycnia inopinatus is actually Cycnia collaris. Anyone searching for Cycnia inopinatus will be directed to a page for Cycnia collaris.

Cycnia opinatus
You're right, John and Jane. The creator of the "Michigan Lepidoptera" Facebook page identified it as "Cycnia opinatus" which I then confirmed in Caterpillars of Eastern North America. It only feeds on Butterfly Weed and its common name is the Unexpected Cycnia,a Tiger Moth. Thanks for your comment.
