metallic wood boring beetle, backyard, new hampshire - Dicerca divaricata

metallic wood boring beetle, backyard, new hampshire - Dicerca divaricata
lebanon, Grafton County, New Hampshire, USA
June 7, 2008
Size: +/- 5/8 inch?
my neighbor found this metallic wood boring beetle in his backyard (not sure exactly where though) around noon. there are young apple trees and mature beech, maple, and butternut trees in the area...can anyone id this? i thought it might be an apple borer? or a birch borer? it was very bright outside, so the image might be a bit washed out, but the beetle was VERY coppery...

Moved
Moved from Beetles.

Probably...
...Dicerca divaricata. This species is similar to D. tenebrica, but the median channel of the pronotum is only faintly indicated, and the punctures of the upper surface are moderate laterally and not so rugose.

love buprestids
most definitely Dicerca.
