Mite - Balaustium

Mite - Balaustium
Norfolk, Virginia, USA
June 6, 2008
Size: 1.5mm

Moved
Moved from Erythraeidae.

Move: Balaustium
Balaustium. Those knob-like things on the dorsum that look like eyes are actually sensory structures called urnulae... a characteristic specific to Balaustium. They are often not visible, but some other BG contributors have captured them too. The true eyes (two pairs) are located just below the urnulae.

Moved
Moved from Mites and Ticks.

Erythraeoid mite
It's an Erythraeoidae mite: http://bugguide.net/node/view/91156/bgpage
