Cycloptilum comprehendens fortior Hebard 1931
Given the location, this has a high probability of being the Sonoran Desert C. c. fortior Hebard (C. comprehendens comprehendens Hebard 1929 is central grassland, and C. c. interior Hebard is Great Basin scrub). This adult male (extended pronotum and tegmina [fore wings] present) has lost its cerci which would be about 1/2 body length. The 3 'subspecies' each have a unique song, and most certainly are separate full species. They may be called Syncopated Scaly Crickets because the songs are in pairs of chirps -- as Hebard indicated, sounding like de-dit...de-dit...de-dit, each of the chirps containing two pulses of sound but sounding like single chirps to the human ear. RE Love.
