Feather-winged Beetle - Ptenidium

Feather-winged Beetle - Ptenidium
Horner Park, Richmond Hill (N43º52'19.4"W079º24'44.5"elev.205m), York Region, Ontario, Canada
June 5, 2008
Size: 0.7 mm
A large number of these was beneath a soggy clump of mowed grass that had been thrown up on a log. They instantly began to scurry in all directions as I lifted the clump. I did the licked-finger dab and picked one up to bring back to shoot at home. This is probably as much detail as I can muster with the built-in flash alone, though I might still be able to increase ambient lighting (but at the risk of frying my subjects).

I appreciate the story of the find.
Many photographers are skimpy on non-visual detail but I think it advances knowledge and understanding to describe the circumstances and behavior of the creatures we photograph.

Thanks Gene!
